Layout competition

We have long put forward the issue that there are not enough exhibitable, modern N gauge layouts coming onto the scene to replace some of the excellent layouts that have been retired in recent years (eg Acton Mainline). So the MAG had a think about how we could try and encourage people to do something about it...and here it is, a layout competition. So put your thinking caps on. We will be offering some prizes, which we hope to add to.

We are going to suggest two phases to the competition the first phase will be the design phase with the second phase the construction phase.

Designs will be showcased on this website and the aim will be to either invite entries to an NGS AGM or to have a separate exhibition for them with perhaps one or two well-known existing layouts - depending on how many entries there are. A possible alternative would be to "show" layouts electronically and for people to vote for their favourites.

The aim is twofold to get some more exhibitable modern N gauge layouts to showcase all the modern stock that is being produced and to promote modern N gauge in general.

Rules

Primarily diesel and/or electric traction (though preserved steam would be permitted).

Must be capable of being exhibited and must be a working layout ie no dioramas.

Open to all members of the NGS (not just the MAG).

No maximum size limit.

Layouts already being planned are eligible (though not anything that has already been exhibited).

Entry is open to either individual members or groups of members.

Deadlines:

Design phase NGS AGM May 2008

Construction phase NGS AGM 2009

Entries are welcome at any point, but obviously the sooner the better. The deadline for designs is the NGS AGM in May 2008. Please send us layout details by that date including a diagram of the proposed layout and some text explaining the design concept ie the story behind the design. You will then have until the following NGS AGM to complete the construction. Obviously the sooner you have completed the design the quicker the construction can begin no need to wait until the end of the design phase if you are ready sooner.

Prizes:

HST set livery to be decided

Selection of rolling stock including PCA, BG, OBAs and Mk. 3s.

Selection of Pikestuff kits
